Baltimore Choral Arts Society and Charm City Sings to Collaborate for Baltimore's Big Sing
Baltimore Choral Arts Society, led by music director Anthony Blake Clark and Charm City Sings, led by founder and artistic director Heidi Ackerman, will join forces for Baltimore’s Big Sing. Members of the public are invited to join in an afternoon of choral favorites on Saturday, March 7th. The free event is returning for a second year after last year’s Big Sing was a resounding success.
“Both of our organizations are committed to creating opportunities for connection through music-making.” says Clark. “We aim to provide the greater Baltimore community with meaningful and exciting ways to participate in choral music. There’s no expectations, no requirements. You simply come as you are and you get to be a part of the magic.”
Baltimore Choral Arts and Charm City Sings are both organizations that have community at their core, made up of mostly volunteer singers from across the region who participate in dozens of concerts per year. Heidi Ackerman founded Charm City Sings in 2022 with a goal of uniting community members through song. Of this event, Ackerman says, “we are always looking for ways to expand our reach to new avenues and create equitable access to high-quality concerts across Baltimore.”
Baltimore’s Big Sing will take place from 3-4:30 pm on Saturday, March 7th at University Baptist Church in Baltimore. Members of the general public are invited to actively participate, singing along to a selection of favorite choral tunes. Participants do not need to bring anything with them; all music will be provided and taught at the event.
In addition to the sing-along component, the Big Sing will also provide an opportunity for several other area choirs to showcase their talents, including Baltimore Children's Choir and Towson University Treble Choir. Among the participating groups is Camerata Baltimore, an ensemble formed in 2014 by artistic director James Mayo III to promote the choral arts to the public through performance, education, and public outreach, with an emphasis on promoting the same to and for people of color as an underserved community in the choral arts.

About Baltimore Choral Arts Society
Currently celebrating 60 years of musical innovation, Baltimore Choral Arts Society builds a stronger, more connected, more inspired community by celebrating the joy of choral music through exceptional performances and diverse educational and artistic partnerships.
Under the artistic leadership of Music Director Anthony Blake Clark, The Symphonic Chorus, Chorus, and Chamber Singers perform regularly with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic and other prominent ensembles, partner with leading institutions such as the Morgan State University Choir and Peabody Conservatory, and travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, in New York, and in Europe. Choral Arts also provides thoughtful and impactful music education initiatives that serve youth in and around Baltimore, including CoroLAB, a partnership with high school choral music programs; Vocal Fellows, a leadership opportunity for professional singers; the Student Composer Project, a competition for high-school and college composers; and Sing and Play with Baltimore Choral Arts, a series of free music classes for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers, presented in partnership with the Enoch Pratt Free Library.
About Charm City Sings
Founded in 2022, Charm City Sings began with a humble group of 29 passionate singers, united by our love for music and a shared vision of building community through song. We are proud to have grown into a dynamic organization with three choirs and over 250 members: the Community Chorus is our large mixed-voice chorus, Treble Voices is our brand new soprano/alto chorus, and Chamber Voices is an auditioned small group with the mission to collaborate with ensembles across Maryland. Charm City Sings' mission remains the same: connecting Baltimore communities through song while creating equitable access to free, high-quality choral concerts.
