2022 European Tour Announcement

Sep 25, 2022

Since the global pandemic rocked the performing arts world in 2020, the Baltimore Choral Arts Society has been eager to return to the international stage. Now in their 57th season, Baltimore Choral Arts has overcome the barriers of Covid-19 in order to travel abroad for their 4th European tour!

This marks Baltimore Choral Arts' 2nd European tour under the baton of music director Anthony Blake Clark. While in Clark's 6th year as resident conductor with Choral Arts, he will be traveling with the group on a 10-day tour of Berlin, Prague and Vienna. Over two thirds of Choral Arts Musicians have chosen to partake in this exciting opportunity, and their sound is sure to be rich with nearly 100 choir members in attendance. Focal points of the tour include a concert in partnership with the CHORALSPACE Concert Series at the breathtaking Berliner Philharmonie on Oct 16th, a performance in the heart of Prague at the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul on Oct 18th, and a collaborative concert with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marin Alsop on Oct 22nd.

"The crux of the tour will be the "Chichester Psalms" by Leonard Bernstein. It will be an honor to explore this piece this season because we are doing it in Vienna with conductor Marin Alsop. Vienna is a city that loved Leonard Bernstein, and Marin Alsop is certainly one of his final great proteges. And now, I have the great privilege of being her student, so there are many connections to Bernstein's music throughout the tour and in our season performances."

- Anthony Black Clark, Music Director for Baltimore Choral Arts Society

Upon The Baltimore Choral Arts Society's return from abroad, they will begin their four-concert subscription series on October 30, 2022. The concert, appropriately titled EuroTour: Berlin, Prague, Vienna, will include much of the same repertoire as was performed overseas. The concert will take place at the Church of the Redeemer at 3 pm.
